Der Akt / The Nude (in art): evoker of pathos, holder of power. Not a documentation but a nuance, a suggestion, a depiction of the individual. Absolute.

Der Akt was conceived in a quiet corner of an Altbau in Kreuzberg, Berlin. I returned to Australia at the end of 2019 after living in Berlin for 7 years and now reside in Melbourne.

I am drawn to the symbolism and permanence of jewellery, the historical and personal significance and evolution of adornment, and the science and laborious nature behind the manipulation of metals throughout the making process. I work a lot with lost wax casting and have a deep fascination for gems and minerals. All my pieces are designed, created and finished by hand, love and devotion.

My jewellery is inspired by art, the human condition, our great Earth, metaphysics, space..... the list goes on! I’ve worked as a tattooist for the last 15 years and am interested in the perceived permanence of adornments in the skin vs those on the skin/body: after its creation a tattoo’s permanence depends on our existence, jewellery remains despite it. I am also intrigued by the ceremony and ritual involved in the application of these adornments.

I would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation, Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live and work, and pay my respects to their Elders past and present. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
